National Voter Registration Day: Your Vote is Your Voz
Share
Hoy es National Voter Registration Day, a reminder that our voices matter—whether it’s at the polls or in our communities. At Más Bonita, we’re all about empowerment, and nothing says empowerment like owning your voice and your right to vote. Our Votando Te Ves Más Bonita collection is about reclaiming our power and using our voice to shape the future. Voting is not just a civic duty, it’s a declaration: "I matter, my community matters, and together we can drive change."
The Power of Voting
La historia tells us how hard communities of color, especially Black and Brown women, have fought for the right to vote. Many of our abuelitas and tias didn’t have this right for a long time. Though Latinas and other women of color gained the right to vote in theory with the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920, in practice, many continued to face voter suppression and systemic barriers for decades.
Ahora, we owe it to those who came before us to use that right they fought so hard to win. Voting isn’t just about the national elections, though that’s important—local elections, school boards, city councils, and judgeships también have a huge impact on our daily lives.
Our Votando Te Ves Más Bonita collection reminds us that our vote is a tool, un reflejo of our values and an expression of our power. When we show up and vote, we’re not only choosing leaders, but we’re also taking a stand on issues like reproductive rights, immigration, LGBTQ+ rights, and economic justice.
Choosing the Best Option
We get it. We know that voting can feel frustrating—sometimes our choices aren’t perfect, and it feels like none of the candidates fully align with our values. We’ve all been there, looking at the ballot and feeling like no one checks all the boxes. Pero, ¡qué remedio! Unfortunately, we have to work with the options we have, and even though those choices may not be ideal, we can still use our vote to push for the candidate who most closely reflects our values.
Here’s the real talk: there will never be a perfect choice in the real world we live in. Pero, by voting, we’re laying the groundwork to demand more options in the future. We’re building a movement that can reshape what leadership looks like, making sure that those who come after us have better choices and better opportunities. Every vote we cast now gets us one step closer to a system that better reflects our community’s values and needs.
Why We Should Care—Here and Globally
Ahora, mientras luchamos por nuestros derechos aquí, we also can’t ignore what’s happening on a global scale. The ongoing struggles in Palestine are a stark reminder of how important it is to fight for human rights everywhere. Just as our communities have faced oppression and marginalization, so too do the people of Palestine. We must hold space for that.
That doesn’t mean we forget about the power of our local movements—voting aquí still matters. It’s our way of influencing policies that affect our communities and supporting candidates who align with the values of justice for all, here and abroad. Supporting the pro-Palestine movement is about standing in solidarity with the oppressed, just as we do here by fighting for equal pay, immigration rights, voting rights, and reproductive justice.
Why You Should Register to Vote
If we don’t vote, we let others decide for us. If we don’t show up, we give up our right to influence the policies that directly affect our lives. And we know that staying calladita isn’t an option. Registering to vote is the first step in making sure that our voices are heard—whether you’re passionate about immigration reform, education, healthcare, or international human rights.
It’s super easy to register, and it only takes a few minutes. If you’re not registered yet, you can do it right now.
